We know sleep is really important for our mental, physical, and spiritual health. Sleep affects everything from balanced hormones to positive thinking, to beauty, and health. It can even affect your spiritual well-being. Sleep is good and most of us really enjoy it!!!
Here are some tips to make the most out of your night’s sleep for the 6-8 hours you will be catching those Z’s.
1 – Clean your room.
When you sleep in an organized area, your mind is able to relax and feel calm and peaceful because there isn’t much chaos around you. Your mind will be able to feel at ease and your spirit will have an easier time feeling the peace and spirit it longs for.
2 – Eat a banana.
Sure it sounds crazy but banana’s have magnesium and potassium which are natural muscle relaxants, hello body-calming agent. As a bonus, they are full of L-tryptophan which feeds serotonin (one of the happy and relaxing chemicals in your brain).
3 – Read the Scriptures.
Maybe you don’t like to read your scriptures at night for fear of falling asleep in the middle of a study, but one verse a night can really bring light to your soul. It can give you something to ponder about the few seconds your mind is awake before sleeping.
4 – Use lavender Oil.
Lavender helps you sleep because it helps to ease anxiety and insomnia, it’s so relaxing and smells amazing.
If you tend to get anxious at night, try putting a little lavender oil or Serenity Calming Blend on your wrists and rub them together. Then inhale as you smell the scent and your mind will feel an instant calamity wash over as you can’t be anxious while using your senses to live in the present.
5 – Pray.
Prayer is amazing! Every single night, make it a habit to kneel down by your bedside and say a prayer. Talk to Heavenly Father, your His child and there is a space in His heart only you can fill. Tell Him everything, thank Him for every good thing. He wants to hear from you. He loves you and cares more than we as mortals can comprehend.
6 – Listen to calming music.
You’ve been busy all day long and now your mind is longing for some peaceful relaxation. Put on some tunes that bring a calming peace over you. Hymns and other church music make a great playlist for your night. Norah Jones would be a perfect artist to add to your “sleep tight” playlist and don’t forget about some classical piano or spa music to end your day. Put on your playlist while you’re completing your bedtime routine to really help your mind start relaxing.
7 – Write in your journal.
Taking time to journal is one of the greatest habits you can get into for bedtime. It’s that time to get all those jumbled and scattered thoughts bouncing through your mind, out on paper. This is powerful so you can go to sleep with a clear mind. Write down those great stories, those worries and concerns, and especially the lessons and the blessings you don’t want to forget.
There are many ways you can write in your journal. One suggestion might be to write down three tender mercies or ways you saw Heavenly Father in your life that day. That way you constantly have a gratitude list in action. Gratitude is a HUGE secret to happiness and positive living.
8 – Wash your face.
When your body is sleeping, that is when your skin knows it’s time to repair itself. When makeup and other bacteria is on your face, clogging up your pores your skin gets confused and doesn’t know what to do with itself. Washing the makeup off of your skin is vital for your skin to stay healthy minimizing wrinkles and allowing itself to repair and stay happy. When your skin is clean at night, you feel good and at peace allowing you to get better sleep and waking up to happier, healthier skin! Don’t skip this step…no matter how tired you are, JUST DO IT!
