* This is part of the everyday healing routine I recommend that can be found on my “12 gifts” page and is also implemented in the course I teach.

Gratitude is one of the keys to abundance. In fact, it’s a HUGE key!! If there is something in your life you are currently seeking, gratitude has a way of healing your heart to get you there.
EVERY GOOD THING
The words ‘EVERY GOOD THING’ have become very special to me over the years. They are like my mantra. I think I need a piece of art in my home that say these words, just because of how sacred they have become to me.
Let me tell you why they do have so much meaning to me. A few years ago I was going through a really difficult period of depression. I had been struggling with deep deep dark depression for about 4 years and my heart was heavy and I didn’t know how much more I could take. I came across the scriptures in Moroni 7 where they just keep repeating the words “every good thing” over and over again. I had read these words so many times before, but it was as if in this moment, God needed me to understand them in a new light. I was then reminded that God ONLY gives good things!!! I may feel like I’m in darkness, but was I looking to God and celebrating the good in the darkness?
I recalled the scripture Psalm 118:24 which says: "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it."
Even though I was fighting depression “that day” (and the day before that and the day before that one…), I realized that it was the day God had given me which meant there had to be something GOOD in that day! It was a day that whether I felt joy or wanted to escape from the pain, He had created that day for ME because I was alive and I was breathing. Every single day we are alive, it is granted unto us BY GOD.
So, I decided I need to start seeing God in my everyday life. Finding the good in that day whether it felt like a good day or not. I needed to celebrate the EVERY GOOD THING of THAT day!!
One of my favorite Conference Talks has always been by Henry B. Eyring, “O Remember, Remember“. In this talk, he speaks on the importance of remembering God’s kindness in our lives. He shares how he loved recording those tender mercies at night, and then as a family, they would sometimes reflect on them. I decided it was so important to implement my own version of this. So I decided that every single night I would record 3 ways I saw God’s hand in my life.
Surprisingly enough, I started to feel as if I was slightly being lifted out of my depression. While not offering me a full recovery (as I learned there were more steps to WHOLE healing), I learned that there was more sunshine than there were clouds. I started to be able to breathe again. HOPE is what started to enter my life.
Now with my husband, a tradition we have been doing in our marriage is every single night in bed when the lights are out and we’re just about asleep, one of us will say “Three good things” and so the other one has to start and name three good things from their day. Then it’s the other person’s turn to share. This has really strengthened our gratitude, our faith in the goodness of God, and helped our marriage to be strong as we get to learn about each others day or be complimented by the other person during this exercise. You can try this with your kids, during family night or family dinner, or even with your friends at sleepovers! Get creative!!
Here is a RECAP of what your daily habit is to be:
- Every single day, sit down and reflect for 5 – 10 minutes on what you are grateful for.
- STOP – and feel it IN your heart!!! 💛
- Write them down!
- You can list the simple gratitudes in everyday life like clean water or all 5 toes. You can recall how you saw a “tender mercy” in your life by God that day. You can mix them up to what feels right that day! It’s all on you, girl!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- You will need a gratitude journal – I use a blank smaller journal that I write the date at the top and then just list my gratitudes for the day. If there is a way that makes this easier for you, do that! There isn’t a right or wrong way, just whatever speaks to your heart!!!
OR you can make plenty of copies of this FREE printable I made for you!!!
